Animal Cruelty
I’ve been asked to comment on this subject of animal cruelty here in Canton and I will. This is clearly just my opinion and I hope you respect it because I certainly respect yours. There is apparently no end to the level of lunacy people can achieve when animals and money are involved. The presumption of innocence may be one of the most hallowed tenets of our justice system. But let's face it, in an informed society — most especially where details are well publicized — citizens of good will will arrive at their own conclusions. Sometimes, of course, these assumptions will run wild. But, then, as the presumption of innocence is a final safeguard, the presumption of shame is a precipitate reality that public figures must take into account when they choose to misbehave. We have some that view this animal cruelty act by a former officer as nothing more than what it is, and you have those that this incident chides at the depths of their souls and demands that justice play it’s part. Who’s right and Who’s wrong? Well we will continue to have that debate for quite sometime. But it goes deeper than animal cruelty And I certainly don’t expect people to be agreeing with me on everything about animals but there are some aspects of history that are pertinent and this is certainly one of them. Animal cruelty sets off alarm bells. Cruelty to animals is a sign of an emotional and empathic disconnect. For a man, a city official to kill hundreds of animals that in no way, form, shape or fashion is provident to him surviving as a human being is alarming. Who knew when, where and for how long questions will remain. I applaud authorities willing to take steps to prosecute those with such peculiar thinking, making sure that this doesn't somehow spark a trend among other senseless people. As parents, we want to teach our children empathy for the neglected and abused dogs and cats in our community. We also want to teach them that all animals feel pain and deserve consideration. We hope they learn that compassion should extend to all animals, not just to the pets that live in our homes or in our local shelters.

Charles Riddell
I am very happy for you over there at Kingston Place. I am glad you are paying your rent on time, and keeping your home neat and presentable. Maybe, since you know Mr. Riddell so weel, you can get him to get his close friend Vicki McNeill, to resign, since she can't keep her home, CPD, in order, and let it fall by the wayside. Maybe, just maybe, we then could get someone in there that will keep the home neat and presentable. Thanks for the tip. Wonder what brought that issue up to begin with, but hey, what the hey.

Kingston Place
I happen to live in one of those nice houses at Kingston Place. I keep my house nice, I pay my rent on time, drop it in the drop box every month. I have yet to have a complaint with management staff in regards to the community. I figure that if you don't pay your rent on time or dont keep your home up, you have some personal issues that need to be addressed. They have community rules that make our community stand out from the rest of Canton. Mr. Riddell would not stand for the management staff not doing their job. I know him personally!

Standards
There is also an article regarding the push to Nationalize how Math and English are taught. Will our school district get in on this as well? We would like to hear from someone responsible, within the CPS System.

School standards?
Will the CPS District be following this same standard, as seen in this Ledger article? If not, why not? "Madison County students will be graded on a 10-point scale starting in August. The school board on Monday approved a new grading system that sets an A at 90-100, a B at 80-89, a C at 70-79 and a D at 65-69. Any grade below 65 is considered a failure. "This puts us on a level playing field with other districts and other states," Superintendent Mike Kent said."Currently, for us a 92 is a B and a 3.0. In Desoto County, that is an A and a 4.0." The 10-point scale should help students in achieving college scholarships, he said. Principals will work with teachers and students this school year to help them understand what the new system will mean, Kent said".

Stray Dogs, additional comment
As I read the comment, I took it as a sarcastic comment on the going on's regarding Mr. Esco, and the Chief's unwillingness to do anything about it. She claims that she can not meet with this Mr. Phillips as he wasn't in the office one day. Well, there are many other days which have slipped by, and they could have met, probably, at any time. I also didn't see any racial terms/slurs, and in a city with a black population of approximately 80%, I'm sorry, but, unfortunately the precentage of kids causing trouble in town, are black. It is also, by my read, a statement on the state of Law and Order in this town, and the need for the Law Enforcement community to become more vigilant in it's commitment to the people they are here to protect. I would also say, To Serve, but that would be seen and taken as the PD does serves the best interest of the criminal element in town. Everyone is so up in arms over everything, and it is just evident that the current state of the city is indeed in trouble. No one needs to put any name on any article if they don't wish to, and I do believe that people still have the right to free speech. That is still in effect here, as well as elsewhere in the country. At least for now, that is.

Respond to Stray Dogs
Something is really wrong in your head to even make a comment like that. U need to be banned from this site. Since you are making so many racial slurs, put your name on here. Let it be known who you are. Dont be a coward. Maybe we need to get rid of all the racist people in Canton, maydbe we wont have anymore meth labs or trailor parks!!!!

Stray dogs
Well maybe we do need to get over it, it is done and gone. Maybe we can round up the little trouble makers who run loose on the streets because they don't want to go to school, or they don't want to obey the curfew laws, they need to break into houses, need to shoot at each other, or maybe it's because their Mommas, since there is usually no father around, don't want to take care of the little ones. We could round them up, take them out to the land fill shoot them and dump them into the creek, and be rid of them too. Be a lot of lost crazy checks, and I need to get my WIC checks, but hey, we can get over it. Unlawful and far fetched, just what Esco did was.Granted they were cats and dogs, but the law is the law, he broke it, and he needs to be responsible for it and pay. I still believe there were others that knew exactely what he was doing, and probably even encouraged him, indirectly so they could not be dragged into this. But, we'll never know, right Vicki, thought so.
